About

Why Soul Renovation?
Soul
from the Hebrew "nephesh" referring to the essence of our humanity, filled with God-breath, living into our fullness.
Renova-tion
the state of being restored, made new or as if new again, or process of being revived.

Renovators see radical potential. They recognize the true character that's hidden beneath layers. With creativity and imagination, the ongoing process continues until completion. As someone who has tackled many projects, it is never easy to go at these projects alone. Soul work is no different. We need others to walk beside us as we undergo the transformative work of becoming new, uncovering the goodness and beauty that has been ingrained in us since our beginning.
Soul renovations invite us to:
-
hear again the unending invitation to know and be known, to love and be loved.
-
recognize ourselves as God-breathed and stamped-in-the-image
-
rediscover a life-giving language of grace
-
learn how to adopt, adapt, and abandon practices that are not needed for the part of the process we are experiencing.
-
rest, enjoy the gifts of nature, and settle in spaces where we laugh, play, and breathe again.

Much of my connection to God occurs outside the traditional walls of the church—whether in the woods, beside water, embarking on another travel adventure, looking through my camera lens, or enjoying authentic conversation over cups of coffee. For me, church has been less about a place and more about a way of being in the world and with people wherever they are, listening for how we encounter the sacred every day.

Why? Because I believe God invites us to embrace our ordinary lives and fill them with adventure and creativity; to become curious, opening ourselves to the mystery of not having all the answers. To simultaneously hold deep joy amidst grief, and to move from living and speaking a language of shame to a language of grace. I believe when we learn to do this well, we discover "church" doesn't always have walls.

After completing a Master of Theology, I now pursue a Doctor of Ministry in Spiritual Formation from Fuller Theological Seminary. My work has included facilitating spiritual formation groups through Fuller's Center for Spiritual Formation, coming alongside the faculty of Berean Safari in East Africa for Bible study intensives since 2018, and leading both online and in-person studies and retreats. I also offer spiritual direction for individuals in my “little house” tucked in the woods behind my home in White Bear Lake, MN, or via Zoom.

When I'm not in my little house, my husband and I are in the bigger house juggling life and assorted hobbies with our two teenagers and grown daughter with significant special needs. To her, I am the most grateful for the ways she has taught me about faith without ever saying a word.
